STARVING!

I don't know what my deal is but I have been absolutely ravenous this week. Luckily there is nothing in the house that is really dangerous but I'm still managing to eat too much. This is real hunger too, not just boredom. Lightheadedness and all!

My weight loss has not been great despite all of my exercising which means I really need to do better on the nutrition front. This little spell is not helping. I haven't switched over to oatmeal for the winter because I wanted to eat what was left of the Trader Joe's O's but I may have to let those go and see if the oats will help fill me up.

Any thoughts blog buddies? What do you eat that really satisfies and fills you up?

  1. almonds and avocado. they're both hefty on the points which kinda stinks but i always feel satified.

yogurt & fruit (like a lil parfait) soo good - thats usually my breakfast, but i'm thinking of switching to oatmeal as the weather gets colder. brr!

  2. I've been eating sweet potatoes for the last couple of weeks. I've been amazed at how filling they are, and more nutritious I think than regular potatoes. I looked it up on sparkpeople and a medium sweet potato is 103 cals. Not bad! Sometimes I put I Can't Believe It's Not Butter on them...then they become crack. lol. I also had 4 egg whites yesterday with a slice of 2% American chz (Kraft)...the cheese made it filling, for 125 cals. Bananas are filling, too, for around 110 cals. Apples have fiber in them...I ate a honeycrisp apple yesterday for 80 cals. Or you can bake/grill up 3-4 chicken breasts to have on hand with yummy spices on them...like Tony Cachere's cajun seasoning (just a sprinkle..high sodium)...6 oz chicken breast is 180 cals...and it's protein, not carbs, so that's good. Shrimp is like chicken...about 30 cals/oz...love me some shrimp..cooking some tonight. You don't have to save meat/shellfish just for dinner...cook it up and eat it whenever you want!!

  3. I think cold weather kinda stokes the appetite, too. It's ingrained in us to pack on some fat for the long, cold winter. I'm with Tammy... sweet potatoes are awesome this time of year, and raw almonds help me stave off hunger pains during the day. Just be mindful that they pack a lot of fat (the good healthy kind) so a few go a long way.

  4. Are you getting enough healthy fat? Sometimes I'm just so hungry until I have, say, half an avocado, or a spoonful of natural peanut butter...it is weird how you can be so hungry sometimes!

  5. That happened to me a few weeks ago. I just drank plenty of water, and tried snacking on healthy things, like veggies and almonds.

  6. Great comments here that are helping me! Hope they're helping you too, Tina. I know that protein is important to keep me satisfied, and also healthy fat, like Shelley said. Nuts, in small portion (which is hard for me to keep it small enough), avocado, and I really like Sargento's reduced fat cheese sticks - they have colby and cheddar - for 60 cals a piece, and they feel like a decadent treat to have one with and apple.

  7. Right now my go-to snack is a tomato/feta salad. Slice up a tomato (or 2!!) and put a small amount of feta in it. Sprinkle with garlic and then red wine vinegar. Fills me up - is tasty and feels like a treat!!

  8. steel cut oats with nonfat greek yogurt in the morning helps... If I am really hungry phase like you describe I throw a small amount of walnuts on there too!

  9. I'm with Leslie, protien is crazy important to keeping me satisfied. One of my favorite snacks is canned tuna (super low cal and about no fat, just watch the sodium). I'll put a little dollop of light mayo, onion powder and dill, and then I have a fantastic tuna salad! Add crackers or toast and you're set. :D

  11. I have nothing further to contribute here...but just know that this is another adjustment that I am having to make, too!!! I have been drinking water like nobody's business..and it has helped me feel more full...especially since I am trying (more than usual) to be mindful of my eats.

I am taking a much of what was shared with me...:)

  12. Great ideas! Oatmeal is my go-to. I love it on cold mornings with a little brown sugar, a few chopped walnuts and half a banana. That'll fill ya up!

  14. Pepitas! For some reason my body really likes them, and they satisfy me. I keep some in my car, since when I am out and about and hungry is when I fall into a pit of refined food.
