Ever since the invention of the internet, I have loved to self-diagnose any and all medical issues. After exhaustive research, have come to the conclusion that I have an umbilical hernia and it's not going to go away by itself. Sooo, I'm off to the doctor this afternoon to see what that's all about.
I've had symptoms for a while now but it's always gone away after a day or 2. My old doctor completely blew it off saying that if there was no lump, it wasn't a big deal. My whole stomach is one big lump so I don't know how I'm supposed to tell :)
From what I can tell, this particular hernia occurs either from birth, from gaining and losing weight over the years, or just from obesity in general. I'm not TOO worried about it but as someone who is "ridiculously healthy" (according to my doctors), I'm not used to having any issues at all.
I will keep y'all posted. My biggest fear is being "benched". I'm not one to sit around. Ever!
Good luck at the doctor. My self dignosing on the internet has always lead me to believe I have some rare diseases. LOL! I hope you are more accurate that I am.
ReplyDeleteI am not telling you this to scare you but to inform you.
ReplyDeleteMy husband had an umbilical hernia for years. This past December it disappeared. When it reappeared, it came back with smack in the face. It got tangled with his intestine and caused major pain. He had to be rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery.
Again, I don't want to scare you. But I don't want you to take it lightly either.
Good Luck!
I play Dr. Google all the time. You know your body best, so I'm glad you are going to the doctor and getting this checked out. Hope it's easily fixable!
ReplyDeleteI have 7 medical sites on my bookmark list!! I love playing diagnostician. I am not a Dr., but I play one on the internet.
ReplyDeleteBetter to get this taken care of than to worry about it. HD had the surgery years ago with no ill effects. Up and around in no time, and he's a big baby. (Like most men.)
He had a "2fer" surgery, and umbilical hernia and an inguinal (sp?) hernia done at the same time.
I'm a big self-diagnoser too! I hope everything is ok :)
ReplyDeleteKrissy
I think I might have an umbilical hernia too! (from the weight gain/loss and pregnancies) Good luck finding out. Since I googled it I haven't had the guts to go to the dr. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteI read medical website all the time. Its hard not to self diagnose but be careful that you don't drive yourself crazy. I wish you the best of luck! ….and maybe leave the self diagnosis alone for a few months ☺
ReplyDeleteDude...if I believed all of my self-diagnoses, I'd of been dead from multiple, terminal illnesses like 5 years ago, lol. I'm glad you're going to the doc for a professional opinion, and I hope it turns out ok, or at least easily fixed. Let us know! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about that. I hope everything is OK!!
ReplyDeleteThere's a little something for you on my blog! ;)
