this is getting serious

Today was a big deal for me. I'm still having weird hip issues so I decided to finally get fitted for some real running shoes.

I did this once before for the 3-day but it was just someone watching me walk and then me trying on shoes. Today's experience was a high-tech analysis of my run which involved computers and video and treadmills etc.

I was terrified to go in this place. I was sure it would be full of snooty marathon runners but it was totally the opposite. I felt comfortable the second I walked in and they seemed thrilled to have yet another member of their running cult :) I also got some socks so we'll see if this is the magical shoe/sock combo I've been desperate to find for years. I'm almost looking forward to getting out of bed at 5:45 tomorrow to put them on.

Yet another fear conquered and a great excuse to keep it up. My next goal is to run to this place from my house and partake of their "free water for runners" :)

  1. I LOVE Big Peach Running Co. I go to their location in Brookhaven and let me tell you, those sneakers have changed my workout life! I had no clue the difference it made. No to mention they have the best customer service!

  2. Did the same thing and had the same fear about a month ago.
When the shop assistant asked me to run on the treadmill, in the middle of the shop, I was pretty scared, but it was fine :)
The trainers are amazing, and support my weak left ankle!
Good luck with your early morning work out!

  3. I wish we had something like that in my neck of the woods! I do go to the running store and the staff are really helpful, but it's nothing like that. Very cool!

    I adore that.
I am off to emulate that.

  6. Good for you! I can relate to fearing entry into a running company - I know Big Peach, my inlaws lived in Brookhaven, so I know exactly where and what you're talking about. Intimidating! Glad to hear they were friendly and helpful. We have Bryn Mawr running here and it's the same way.

  8. I want a Big Peach. Actually, I rather resemble a big peach. I want to be a big peach in running shoes! Keep up the fight!

  9. Way to go! I love Big Peach! I had the same fear before going. They were so nice and encouraging about my desire to start walking. I'm now on my third pair of sneakers.

  11. I am just going to echo the sentiments of everyone else...Big Peach rocks!!!! So glad that you got the full analysis done...and hope that your new shoes (and socks) provide many miles of joyful running (now if only we could bottle up a little bit of coolness to go with...we could really be onto something!).

  12. Conquering fears is so liberating isn't it??? I'm just so damn proud of you girl! Can't wait for things to settle down so we can CATCH UP!! Won't be long now...I pick up the keys for apt on lunchbreak tomorrow....moving furniture in with the moving truck this Saturday, unpacking Sunday, then setting up dinner with you and Kim for the near future! :)
