wake-up call #3,756

I found out yesterday, unofficially, that I have asthma. I've been suffering from allergies (itching and wheezing) for a while now and yesterday saw a respiratory therapist and went through an hours worth of tests. He says I have it and is sure the pulmonologist will confirm it. Of course I asked the usual questions... Is it because I smoked a pack a week (cigarettes and otherwise) back in the day? Is it because I'm too fat? Yes and yes. He said that there are probably many reasons it's flared up recently but the weight is the main factor. He was no skinny thang himself so luckily was very understanding about how hard it can be.

As someone who doesn't sit around and feel sorry for myself, I'm doing something about it. I have exercised and ate well every day this week and in one hour, I'm meeting with someone who I think will be a perfect personal trainer. It will be hard to afford it with the yoga and gym but it will be cheaper than all this medication in the long run.

Going to yoga tonight with Crys. I'm super excited about that.

Oh and I lost 3 lbs. this week. Almost on to fresh pounds...

  1. Well BOO to asthma - but it is manageable, and at least you will know what to do about it now, right?

And WOOHOO to 3 pounds lost! That is fantastic, Tina!!! I hope you like the personal trainer - I know for me, it was a huge kick start and worth every penny.

  2. Hello! I just joined blogspot and your blog is one of my many inspirations. :) It's a huge struggle to lose weight but it will be worth it. Congrats on the 3 pounds girl!

Check out my blog if you'd like, I'm just getting it up and running, but it would be nice to have some feedback and readers. :)

    xo, Elle

  3. ouch asthma, i hope you get some good treatment to help you on your way and to make you feel good!

  4. Good for you! Your attitude is just what you need. You know you can handle it and you're already on the right track. And just think how helpful your story is to others on the same journey but with even more health issues. Hang in there!

  5. Love your attitude friend! It's good to make an investment in yourself and your health!! 3lbs is incredible too!!

Thanks for the yoga invite! I really did love it. Hopefully, I'll see you tomorrow at the park. :)

  6. hi!! I am a new follower.
sorry to hear about the asthma... Your going in the right direction though to help yourself.
    YOu have a amazing attitude.

Congrats on your 3 lbs!! AWESOME!

  7. As an asthmatic myself, I have to say that realizing when diagnosed (I was 22 years old at the time) that my hatred of exercise was not because I was lazy but because I felt like I would die each time I ran, was really helpful in a psychological way for me. Yes, smoking and being overweight don't help, but you will be amazed when your asthma is treated how much better you feel. I'm sorry that you got the diagnosis but I'm glad you are taking care of yourself!

Sending big breaths your way, GP

  8. Sorry to hear about the asthma diagnoses....I couldn't expand on that subject the other day when we were texting because I was driving! lol Congrats on the 3 lb. loss and I'm glad you and Crys are doing yoga together...that's AWESOME!! We all need to meet up for dinner soon...and I'm sure to get Kim there with us one of these days, too! Miss you bunches, and congrats on the new work also! :)

  9. I'm currently considering taking up a personal trainer! Let me know how you get on and if you think it's worth it! Good luck! Oh and well done on the 3lb loss!
