The road ahead

Life is still busy and about to get busier.

I promised myself that this year was going to be about progress not survival and that is taking much more work than I could have imagined.

I've been blessed with a new source of steady work that I will really enjoy doing and will finally give me the money I desperately need to fix some things around my house. The problem is I'm sacrificing every second of ME time, including working out. I've been getting up at 5:45, working until 8, going to my part time job, coming home at 1:00 and working until 7 or 8. My only option is to quit this ugly habit of working before sunrise and get back to going to the gym by 6. It's the only thing that's going to give me the energy to do all this work.

Last Monday I went to the doctor for what I think is an allergy (lots of itching and wheezing) and she drained a tiny cyst I had on my side that wasn't even bothering me in the slightest. Suddenly it became a raging infection and I ended up back in the office mid-week in serious pain. Luckily they fixed me up quickly and gave me some antibiotics but it's amazing how much that derailed me for the week. I wasn't able to bend at all so yoga was out and the little bit of sweating I did while vacuuming burned like crazy. Today is my last day of no exercise per doctors orders and I will not stop moving the rest of this week.

No exercise + winter = crazy

  1. Time definitely isn't on our side on this journey. It's so, so important to carve out time to make it happen. My experience has been that Life will throw up roadblock after roadblock; it's up to us to either navigate around them or plow through 'em!

    Good luck!

  2. Wow Tina, your cyst story reminds me of people going to the hospital for one little thing and getting horribly sick with something they picked up there! Good thing you got the infection taken care of quickly; and glad you are able to get back to exercise. As for being so busy - talk about burning the candle at both ends with your schedule! Definitely take some time to make your body strong through working out - sounds like you're going to need it. Glad you are doing so well with work, though! :)

  3. Tina, you know I know about work life balance and the pangs of self employment. Call me and let me know how I can help you. I have a flexible workout schedule... just let me know what I can do to support you! You? Me? Hot yoga, soon? Hang in there!

  4. I hear you! Work is crazy busy for me right now, but the gym has been one of the only things carrying me through! The best class? My combat class. Then I get to just pretend I'm punching coworkers for an hour. It makes it so much easier to smile at them during the day!!!

  5. Your struggle is inspiring to me. It is nice to know that I'm not the only one who gets dark and it's certainly nice to know that others too may use a snowstorm as a way to avoid exercise and eat up a storm. We're all in this together.

  6. Hi! I'm a new reader... and I can totally relate to the time crunch. It's so hard to lose weight when there aren't enough hours in the day to plan, work out, prepare meals, count calories... and not enough money to pay for it all!! BUT the encouraging thing... where there's a will, there's a way, and many busy people before us HAVE succeeded!!

  7. Funny how you only seem to miss exercising when you are told not to do it. Glad things are picking up for you, business wise, but sorry it is taking such a toll on your me time. Good luck in finding the balance.
