always a battle

Do you ever just get tired of fighting with yourself? I never fight with anyone. Only myself. Only about food and exercise.

The debate rages on in my head this morning as I'm sporting yet another injury of the right side variety. I sliced open my thumb and ended up going to urgent care for stitches on Saturday. Of course I waited too long so I could only get glued and taped but at least it's put back together and I'm not going to get tetanus.

The cut took my mind of the tendonitis for a few days but now it ALL hurts which severely impacts my big plans for workouts this week. I'm fine except from the right elbow down so I KNOW I can do most of what I have planned but the pain makes me want to sit on the couch and eat and feel sorry for myself. I want it to go away and I feel like if I keep pushing myself it's never going to get any better. Last time I tried to stop and heal I gained 9lbs.

I'm really trying not to be so cranky about it but that's what happens when I'm frustrated. Injuries, constant power outages from storms every other day, having to listen to everyone talk about vacations.... I'm hoping if I at least try to work out this week, I may loose the crappy attitude :)

You're been such an inspiration to me with your excellent exercise and eating ethics. I feel certain that if you have to back off exercising a bit in order to heal, you have what it takes to maintain, if not keep on losing lbs. Hang in and unload the frustration here whenever you need to!

  2. Pain is the worst - it just tints everything the wrong color! But you know, I've often said our bodies need breaks occasionally and if we don't give it, they take it. It might be that you need to back off a bit to heal. If so, you know you are capable of controlling your food which would stop a weight gain. You can do it!

  3. I'm so sorry your hurt your thumb - cuts give me the heebie jeebies and I am shuddering in sympathy right now for you! What a pain (literally) to have this happen. Maybe it is a sign you are supposed to go to a spa for the weekend and get fabulously pampered and fed lovely deceptively low-calorie meals.

Seriously, I hope your week improves. And thanks for the sweet comment on my blog today! :)

  4. We all tend to fight with ourselves for some reason or another. Food and exercise tend to be our biggest down falls but with all the miss information floating around its hard to make sense of what really is the truth.

    How's that thumb doing?

  5. There are always lots of bumps in the road, but you get past them in the end. You do a lot of exercise and a week, or two, or even five isn't much in the perspective of a lifestyle that's healthy. You'll be back to your best in no time.

  6. Awww...I'm sorry to hear about all the injuries...I know that can get you down. Just remember all the good you've done for yourself, and know that you've got the right attitude to get back at it when you're all healed up.

  9. I have found a great way to help with those battles. I have one every morning when I am deciding whether to wake up and do sprints or stay in my bed!

I just signed up for changeanything.com for free using the coupon code "green"... The website contains templates for a lot of change plans to help with weight loss, training for a race, eating healthier and so forth.

The change plans help you identify those "crucial moments" that you have every day when you fight with yourself and how to create "vital behaviors" to overcome them. It really helps! You should check it out and see what you think!
