Autumn in Atlanta

Well after torrential rains and flooding we finally have our first taste of fall here. I feel like the fresh cool air cleans out my head. I think the wind that brought in a cold front yesterday literally blew out all the cobwebs.

A special shout out today to Shelley. Your comment yesterday helped me get out of bed today and exercise. I sometimes think it's weird that I feel accountable to a group of people I don't know but hey, whatever works! Thanks again to everyone who supports me every day. I feel like I know myself so much better for sharing my story and it's really helping me tackle the issues behind my weight problem.

This morning at 5:45 I was putting my shoes on to go on the elliptical and stepped outside for a minute. Once I felt how cool it was outside I decided to go on the dog walk with the husband instead. We had a good 30 minute walk and only allowed 5 minutes of that to be "sniffing around time." The rest of the time we dragged the dogs as fast as we could and got a really good workout in. When I came home I had a cup of coffee and then did a 15 minute workout on the ball. Now I have jiggly legs from squats and wogging and it feels great. I need to not be such a creature of habit and allow myself to mix up my exercise and do what I feel like doing.

I've set a new goal for myself which I haven't done for a while. I'm going to lose 10 more pounds by halloween. I have a trip to Savannah and an anniversary in there so it's going to be a challenge but I'm ready to excavate the 2nd layer of the skinny clothes bin and find some fun things to wear for fall.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

  1. Variety is the spice of life, you know. :) Way to mix it up.

I came up with a personal Halloween challenge myself. Seemed like a good short term date to shoot for. Good luck to you.

  2. Hi Tina,

Did I already tell you I lived in Atlanta for years, and my husband was there all last week helping his ancient parents move from house to independent senior living? Anyway - have a son at Emory, and my daughter went to and worked there as well.

This was a great post. I loved your comment about it being weird to feel accountable to a group of people you don't know but that it works! I agree totally.

I also laughed at your recounting the dog walk and noting the "sniff time" vs. dragging them the rest of the way. Yep - I have a big old doggie I have to drag in order to log "real" exercise hours.

Good luck with your goal. Very realistic and doable. I'll be staying tuned to watch you make it!

  3. I wish our weather was nice and cool so I could go outside. But I have been on the treadmill inside so at least I have been sticking with that! Great job on the walk and workout, you can lose the weight!

  4. Good luck on the ten pounds! I can't wait for the Fall weather to get here...it got up to 100 yesterday! Ridiculous.

Shelley always leaves great comments :)

  5. YAY for sticking to your morning workout plan! As for that 10 lbs., well I'll tell you what they say to us in Thai Boxing: Goals you set are goals you get - go for it!

  6. I'm laughing because I had to go back and read what I'd said! It's funny how that hit you - this week, I vowed to myself that I would try to be more "me" and less "generic cheerleader" in my comments, so thank you for the validation! And thank you, Tricia, as well!

Love that you mixed it up with a your husband (no, not in that way!) - as a fellow southerner, I totally appreciate taking advantage of the cool mornings! Enjoy those jiggly legs - you earned them!

Good luck with your Halloween challenge! And thank you again, Tina - you made my day!

  7. Don't you love good walks outside? It is so much more enjoyable than the elliptical to me.

Good luck on your new goal! You can do it!

  8. Good job on mixing up the exercise. I think your goal is ambitious but doable for sure! Good luck to you!!

  9. It is cool here today too. Cant wait for my afternoon walk.
Good luck on the Halloween goal. YOu can DO it!!

  10. Hi friend... good for you for getting out there to walk. The weather here is cooperating so I hopefully will do the same. That's a gret goal to have and it really sounds like you are in a nice groove. Keep it up!

  11. Hey Tina!
