Baggy pants

Why is it that sometimes the scale won't move much but suddenly it's time for new pants? I should say "trousers" so my British friends don't snicker ;) I might even have to venture in to the two bins of skinny clothes I have and see what's in there! Yesterday's pants could barely zip at the beginning of the summer and when I put them on, I thought they were ripped or something because they would barely stay on. The scale is a constant source of confusion but screw it, I'm feeling pretty good about going down a size or two. Anyone else experience this?

I'm running around like crazy today and tonight working and getting ready for my Scottish family to arrive tomorrow. I'm trying to put together some meals that don't break the money and calorie bank. I'm running out of time! :) Hope everyone is having a great week!

  1. Yeah, I've had that happen. That's why I take measurements every so often, too, so the scale isn't the only thing to gage by. Sounds like clothes fitting is a great gage for you!

  2. I've had that happen too and then usually soon after I do see a drop on the scale. Weight as you know can be affected by all sorts of things, but body composition isn't. So rejoice, you really are fitter!

  3. This is the perfect example of paying attention to all the different things that happen as we get healthier and lose weight.

Our bodies change in many ways, not just according to the number on the scale!

I loved getting into smaller size clothes on my journey - it was one of the best parts!

  4. Very cool with the trousers! I don't know why the scale says one thing when your clothes say another, but the good news is your body is getting smaller - go Tina!!!

  5. Way to go. I've had the same thing happen, so I guess weight loss isn't all about the weight lost, inches matter, too.

    Have fun with your guests!!!

  6. Good for you for getting into your skinny pants. I say eff the scale anyway!

  7. This is totally me! In 2006 I lost my first 60 pounds. For the first SIX WEEKS of my journey, I didn't lose an ounce but I lost a dress size. Whatever - I'll take it! This year when I decided to tackle the rest of my weight-loss, the same thing happened - it was over a month before I saw a loss at the scale, but it is slowly following along behind the measurements. Congratulations!!

  8. Yep, I'd rather wear smaller clothes than see a smaller number on the scale. It's funny that people make more comments about me loosing weight when I wear my older baggy clothes than when I wear clothes that actually fit.

  9. My scale and I have a LOVE/HATE relationship, lol. I get on that b*st*rd every day...but it's the clothes that really tell the TRUE story...inches DO matter just as much as the scale dropping...probably more...and I'm reminded of this every time I put on the shorts I'm wearing right now. I've been getting aggravated lately with the way they've been slipping down my hips and I have to pull them back up 50x a day...until this afternoon. I reached back a little while ago to haul them back up over my haunches...and I smiled instead of cussed. :)

  10. Smaller sizes are so exciting! Screw the scale - you're doing fine without it.

Any chance you and your family will be rooting for Andy Murray at the US Open? I'd join you but my money's still on Roddick. Gotta love our Andies!

  12. If at all possible, track your lean body weight. I bet it is going up (good)...as fat goes down (good). Three cheers! Here is a link to a post I did on this subject last month: http://bigbottomblogger.blogspot.com/2009/08/plateau-heck-no.html

  14. How fun that you get to go back to the skinny clothes just when your Scottish family is coming to visit.
